Belize Trip Blog Day 3- The Cayo District
Off We Go to Cayo
While I really didn't want to leave Chabil Mar Villas in Placencia, we were at the airstrip before 7am. San Ignacio Town here we come.
Our group flew to Belmopan and from there we were transferred by van to the San Ignacio Hotel for our morning supplier meetings. We got a good look of Victoria Peak as we flew over the Maya mountains and it was stunning. Victoria Peak is the highest point in Belize at 3688 ft. and is considered the ultimate Belize hiking expedition.
This was my first visit to the San Ignacio Hotel and it was beautiful. The pool area is gorgeous and is just perfect for poolside events or wedding receptions. We went on a site inspection and had lunch at Cahal Pech Village Resort before heading over to The Lodge at Chaa Creek.
Our activities at Chaa Creek were pretty cool. Five of us went canoeing before dinner. I have never been canoeing and it was a great time. I wasn't very good at it so I'm sure that I got the best workout of all. After dinner we went on a guided night walk and saw a tarantula, two scorpions, tree frogs, other types of frogs, cutter ants, and a fox. I thought that was a lot of nature for a one hour walk!
When we got back to the lodge, we were told that a tropical depression was headed toward Belize that might cause us to cancel our trip to Ambergris Caye on Saturday. We wouldn't know until 5am with the next weather report. So, off to bed I went. The power of positive thinking. I was sure we would be going to San Pedro Town.
