Day 1-  Belize City

After many months of anticipation, we have finally arrived in Belize. Of course, I got so carried away on Facebook at the airport in Houston that I almost missed my flight. Oops! Now that wouldn't have been so good.

Honestly, it felt like coming home. Randy Jones, the best tour guide in Belize in my opinion, is one of the group leaders once again. We arrived at the airport and Randy was right there to meet us along with the other BETEX leaders. Phil and I came prepared with Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and Reeses Puffs Cereal for Randy and family. No Walmart here folks!

We made it over to the Belize Biltmore (Best Western) for a traditional Belizean lunch and that much anticipated helicopter ride giveaway. I was sure this was my year!! No, I didn't win.

The afternoon included a quick tour of Belize City with a stop at Traveller's Liquors, the makers of Belize's famous 1 Barrel Rum. This is a small museum and gift shop. Pretty cool. I was tempted to start loading up on goodies but then realized that I would be hauling them around all week. So, I thought the better of it and hopped back on the Calypso train for the rest of the tour.

The opening dinner was at The Black Orchid Resort. Great music, food, and Belikin. Had time to catch up with Brad at Belize Yoga and Efren from Caves Branch. What a great way to begin our conference. If you thought Texans were friendly, you must come and meet the Belizean people. Sometimes, I think I might just stay.
